American Red Cross Blood Drive at Heritage

What's that bus doing parked in front of Heritage Animal Hospital? Our own Stephanie (pictured on the right) recently coordinated an American Red Cross Blood Drive at Heritage. Over 30 donors registered, but last minute transmission issues delayed the bus. Still, 17 pints of blood were collected. Also pictured, Drs. Carter, Silverstein and trainer, Linda Brodzick, each found themselves a pint low at the end of the day. Great Job Stephanie!

Community Services

Heritage Animal Hospital loves to give back to the community!

We invite you to participate in Heritage Animal Hospital's Community Outreach Programs. Our complimentary programs give back to the community by educating, informing, and providing pet contact to the public. Below is a concise list of these specially designed outreach programs (To schedule a program, please call our office at 763-559-PETS):

Osseo Lion's Roar Parade

Heritage Animal Hospital employees and community volunteers were waving, wagging tails, and accepting pats on the head at the 2007 Osseo Parade, Saturday September 8th. The pets were, as always, the stars of the show. A special thanks to Kishi, Rosie, Eddie, Ozzie, Mandy, Shelly, Tebucky, Frankie, Sequoya, Dixie, Tiki, Monster, Riley, and Molly the pony. Thanks again to the volunteers, especially the ones we sent to the "Dog House", and everyone passing out candy, fans, and frisbees.

Heritage Animal Hospital's Volleyball Team

This was Heritage Animal Hospital’s second year of Volleyball. This league is held every year through Plymouth Recreation and lasts approximately 8 weeks.  Our winning record is nothing to brag about, but we all have fun!

Eastman Nature Center

This August one of our technicians went on an educational visit to Eastman Nature Center in Maple Grove. Amy, with “Kishi’s” help, talked about the importance of pet care and how to approach new animals. The kids also listened to “Kishi’s” heart and afterwards she showed off with some of her favorite tricks.

Dr. Silverstein, Dr. Carter and the team at Heritage Animal Hospital appreciate the support of all of our Community Outreach volunteers. Donna Schmidt, one of our Community Outreach volunteers and her pet, Shelly were included in a July 2007 North Memorial's Employee Newsletter written by Bill Stein.

Shelly has been visiting the North Memorial Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU) every other Tuesday night and at each visit, she enriches patient's lives. Such comments made by CUI patients included the following:

"It was another form of peace and relaxation."

"It was a great form of unconditional love which is what I believe many of us miss in our daily lives."

"It helped me take away my thoughts of pain a little."

Bill Stein included his own personal observation: "At one of Shelly's recent visits to the CIU, she greeted a young patient with flat affect, a severe reduction in emotional expressiveness. The patient was given a handful of dog treats and told to ask Shelly to sit. Like magic, Shelly instantly sat upon the patient's command, and even more magically, the patient suddenly broke into a smile that could have spanned Oakdale Avenue."
